ALWAYS HAVE YOUR PHONE NUMBER ON YOUR DOG'S COLLAR.
The Control of Dogs Act INSISTS on all dogs having their owners' contact details on their collar.
Anyone who has a dog without their phone number on its collar is stupid; dogs with their owner's phone number do not get lost. It is as simple as that.
Check your dog's tag regularly in case he loses it and renew it if you change your phone or mobile number. You can microchip your dog for as little as €25. A microchip fits just under his skin and contains your details. If he is picked up by a dog warden, vet or animal rescue he will be scanned and you'll get him back, even if he loses his collar altogether.
If you have lost a dog in Cork and want to find out if he is in the Animals' home then you MUST call in personally to check. Over the phone mistaken identity is too easy and we will not risk it. If you love your dog it is worth you taking an hour out to check if he has been brought into the Animals' Home. If he is not here then you are welcome to put up a poster with your details and his picture, free of charge.
